Artist Statement

As an artist I have always been inspired by the natural world around me. I have a deep respect and love for the natural world and all the life the inhabits it. But every coin has another side and I equally fascinated with life’s other half, death. Everything must start, and everything must end, and the journey in-between is the richest filling. This is where my interest in hides, bones, antlers and fur derives from.

With leather I can create something from a material that would normally waste away, and instead give it an entirely new life.  If properly taken care of, these objects can be passed down to the next generation. If not taken care of, they will naturally decompose back to earth, unlike most synthetics of today.

I am passionate about knowing about my leather and understanding the process and respecting the life it once had. In 2018 I took a trip to Iceland to visit a tannery first hand and got to experience every aspect of the cycle.  I am entirely grateful for finding this medium and this incredibly inspiration that has put a light in my life. I try to put my heart into every piece and leave all my works with a good will blessing.
